This phase evokes an odd perception of time
The desire to pause and fast forward at once
To feel gripped by the past, the present, and the future
To fall mercy to two opposing forces,
A push to press forward, scraping through shift after shift
To bow my head and lower my gaze
Eyes flickering only towards the finish line, the end goal
The moment that will mark the journey’s worth.
But there also lives the pull that roots my soles
That which forces me to hold its gaze
And think of nothing other than the soul before me
Or rather, the memory of the soul that once lived before me.
I set to find peace in this opposition
And to pull from this experience
A collage of meaning beyond survival, beyond loss
So I may continue to learn, to grow, and to impact
