Casual Trauma

Casual trauma. I’ve been thinking a lot about that phrase and the violence of it. The violence of residency. The way we find closeness with each other through these shared traumatic experiences, giggling to each other about our trauma bond. Giggling because we must keep our emotional distance lest not we have feelings at work. Must maintain professionalism. Must be present and alert and aware and compassionate and efficient and tactful and intelligent and careful and thorough and…One day we will just be. Be human. Be whole. Be. One day.
